Why Catalan Verbs runs subscriptions on Payblast

Catalan Verbs is a conjugation trainer on the App Store and Google Play. Payblast is the piece that decides whether a learner has paid.

Catalan Verbs teaches verb forms: a dictionary, quizzes, listening practice, and offline access. It ships as two store apps, Catalan Verbs on the App Store and Catalan Verbs on Google Play. The paid catalog on the App Store is a monthly plan, a yearly plan, and Catalan Verbs Lifetime Edition.

What the app actually needed

The lesson content already lived in the app. The missing piece was purchase state. A subscription bought on iPhone has to unlock the Android app for the same learner, and the other way around. A lifetime purchase has to stay unlocked. A renewal, a cancellation, or a refund has to move that state without a new app release.

Apple and Google already take the payment. The app needed a record of the result: which product, which store, and whether access is still active. Maintaining that record twice, once per store receipt format, is the work that grows every time a store changes its notifications.

Why Payblast

Payblast is one project for both store apps. Products from App Store Connect and Google Play attach to a single entitlement. The app checks that entitlement. It does not parse receipts, and it does not grant access from a purchase-success screen.

  • Monthly and yearly subscriptions stay active until the store says they expired, including billing retry. App Store Server Notifications and Play notifications update the dates.
  • Lifetime Edition is a non-consumable. It grants the same entitlement with no expiry, so the paywall and the dictionary share one check.
  • Offerings list the packages the paywall should show. Switching the current offering does not require a new binary.
  • The public key ships in the app. Secret keys stay on the server. Payblast does not hold the learner’s money. Apple and Google do.
  • The plan is free under $2,000 of monthly tracked revenue, for up to two apps. That matches an indie education app that already has a store listing and is still growing.

How it was integrated

The verb content, quizzes, and audio stayed in the app. Payblast only owns the purchase record.

  1. 1 Create a project and add the iOS app and the Android app to it.
  2. 2 Create the entitlement the screens check, then attach the store product identifiers for monthly, yearly, and lifetime.
  3. 3 Put those products in an offering. The current offering is what GET /v1/offerings returns to the paywall.
  4. 4 Ship the public SDK key in both apps. After StoreKit or Play Billing finishes, read GET /v1/customers/:app_user_id. If the entitlement is active, unlock the full dictionary and trainers.
  5. 5 Point App Store Server Notifications and Play Real-time developer notifications at the project. Renewals, cancellations, and refunds update the customer. The success screen does not grant access.

What this is for

Catalan Verbs is the first education app on the platform. Pushup Challenges uses the same shape for a fitness app: one project, both stores, subscriptions and in-app purchases behind entitlements. If you sell in more than one store and you are tired of keeping two receipt stacks in sync, this is the integration.

Put your app on the same setup

Two apps are free until $2,000 in monthly tracked revenue. Create a project, attach your store products, and check one entitlement.
